 PARLOUR GAMES

2 November 2017 - 7 January 2018

As winter arrives in Oslo, we withdraw into the domestic shelters of our own homes. The cold and darkness of outside is countered by warmly lit rooms and the comforts of familiar objects.

"If I were asked to name the chief benefit of the house, I should say: the house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.", wrote the French philosopher Gaston Bachelard in The Poetics of Space (1958).

In the exhibition Parlour Games, Galleri Format is transformed into a domestic tableau filled with precious objects and furniture that ceate a fictional narrative of lived life. It is a space we can inhabit, but also observe from the outside. It is a doll's house, a stage, a Christmas display - a fantasy home.
The exhibition includes works by some of the foremost artists in Norway working in ceramics, glass and silver.

The exhibition is curated by Joakim Borda-Pedreira.

Thanks to Sølvesen Myhre Berntsen Antikviteter for important loans of period furniture.
