Linn Sjöstedt
Images Knocking on Your Door
9 November - 17 December 2023
Throughout 2023, curator Kari Skippervold presents the exhibition series Images Knocking on Your Door in Format’s project room. The series consists of six open-call-based exhibitions featuring seven artists.
Linn Sjöstedt creates sculptures in ceramics, glazed, and colored stoneware. The objects we encounter are typically naturalistic everyday items such as lotion, a deck of cards, asparagus, broccoli, and cheese puffs - where changes in scale actively contribute to the storytelling.
Through these soft forms and everyday objects, thoughts can be directed towards society at large, the food industry, boundaries, and needs – universal and individual encounters with food and different societal attitudes towards body preservation and the individual.
In the exhibition "KRÄM," Sjöstedt has drawn inspiration from the skincare industry, where creams are promoted to customers by focusing on texture, rituals, and skin colors. In an attempt to attract more users, the industry emphasizes "perfection." The magical driving force of the material. Do you actually dare to resist? Creams can caress the body, take care of you and your skin. Creams can evoke emotions, strengthen structures, and alter aging processes. What is reality, and where does our imagination begin?
Linn Sjöstedt lives and works in Gustavsberg, her studio is located in the old porcelain factory. 2014 she graduated with a bachelor in ceramics and glass from Konstfack in Stockholm and has since been working with both sculptural pieces and small series of functional objects. She has exhibited at blås&knåda (Stockholm), Open craft (Örebro), Galleri BOX (Göteborg), Karlskoga konsthall (Karlskoga) and Stockholmmodern (Stockholm). 2023 she received a two year working grant from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee and was recently awarded Konsthantverkspriset 2023 from Svensk Form and Stockholm Auktionsverk.
