Tactile Reflection

Based on metal and corpus techniques, Elin Hedberg, Sofia Karyofilis and Leif Stangebye-Nielsen create objects, sculpture and installations with widely different and personal expressions. Through repetitive and controlled hammering, the metals are processed in a slow and sometimes heavy and demanding physical process. Elin Hedberg and Leif Stangebye-Nielsen create objects in silver, sometimes combined with wood and steel, where rituals are a common theme. Sofia Karyofilis makes sculptures and installations in copper. One common feature is that everyone challenges the material to take on a particular form where the traces of the process are an essential part of the work. The traces are a personal imprint of the creator of the work and the process the material has gone through.

Elin Hedberg (b. 1988, Stockholm) got her MFA from Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2015 and was then awarded with the student prize from the Norwegian Arts and Crafts Association for her exam work. Her works is part of the collection at the National Museum in Oslo, KODE in Bergen and public art installations. Hedberg has participated in several exhibitions in Norway and abroad, among others ”Kunsthåndverk 2019”, KODE, Nutida Svenskt Silver 2019, Kunstnerforbundet 2017, ”What Wood Would – Stories Told in Wood, Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum 2017 and Collective Design Fair with Galleri Format, New York 2016.

Sofia Karyofilis (b. 1978, Oslo) graduated from the Oslo Academy of the Arts (2009-2014). She has exhibited at The Benaki Museum Annexe, Athens, Gallery Format, Oslo, Hå Gamle Prestegård, Jæren, KRAFT, Bergen, RAM Gallery, Oslo and Oppland Art Center, Lillehammer. Her work is part of the collections at the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, Oslo, KODE (Art Museums and Composer Homes), Bergen and Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum, Trondheim.

Leif Stangebye-Nielsen (b. 1955, Oslo) is a metal artist and associate professor at Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Norway. He graduated from the same institution in 1983. Stangebye-Nielsen was a member of the art group “Trikk“ from the start in 1983 to 1987. He has had several solo exhibitions and taken part of group exhibitions both in Norway and internationally. He received the Norwegian Art and Craft Association award in 1988 and is represented in all the collections of art and crafts in Norway, Røhsska Museet in Gøteborg Sweden and Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
